Short essay:
Each student will choose one of the stereotypes about the Islamic World discussed in class (in the concept lesson) and write a short essay answering the following questions on it:
1. What stereotype did you choose and would you agree that it is a common misconception about the Islamic World?
2. Why has this stereotype become commonly accepted by many?
3. Is this an accurate stereotype? Why or why not? Please use the informational printout and/or the textbook as a reference when answering this question.
The short essay will be 5 points and the students will be graded on whether they fully answered the questions and if they used what they learned to answer the questions.

Students will create a mini newspaper with at least 5 sections that include information about major topics of interest, controversial issues, important events, etc that relate to the World of Islam. They could have a section on the 5 Pillars or Muhammad's death. Anything discussed in class is possible. Be as creative as possible with each section. One section could be a classified ad, another an obituary, an editorial, an article. At least 2 different kinds of sections is required. Students should include at least one picture as well. If a student wishes to present their information another way, they may speak with the teacher to do so. Some alternatives could be an animation, a comic, or a website.
